Dental Hygienist Job Description
Dental Hygienist Duties and Responsibilities:
- Set up and prepare dental equipment and instruments before patients arrive.
- Review charts and daily schedule.
- Perform patient screening procedures; such as assessment of oral health conditions, review of the health history, head and neck inspection, dental charting.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (x-rays) and intraoral pictures as need it.
- Remove calculus and plaque (hard and soft deposits) from all surfaces of the teeth.
- Apply preventive materials to the teeth (e.g., sealants and fluorides).
- Demonstrate patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health; (e.g., tooth brushing, flossing and mouth rinse).
- Explain the relationship between healthy diet, good nutrition and oral health.
- Clean and set up dental chair for the next patient.
- Review documentation and charting and the end of the day.
- Stock dental hygiene materials and supplies.
- Clean and restock the room for next day.
- Hygienist will work as a member of the dental "team" helping assistants when there is dead time.
- Report directly to the Clinical Supervisor.
Dental Hygienist Job Requirements
Licensed in the State of ConnecticutCurrent CPR
All proper vaccinations, including Hepatitis A and B, as well as Tetanus
